🎙️ Joep

Background

When did you start playing RtCW, and how did you get into it?

Me and a few classmates played the demo, and I bought the game on release date. They quickly moved over to another game, but I kept on playing till 2005.

I decided to reinstall the game in 2016/2017 and I was surprised to see people still played the game.

What’s your most memorable moment so far in your RtCW history, and why?

Playing Eurocup X and Warleagues Premier Division with clan wArning! back in the day. It was a mix between Spanish and Belgium Players.

dAv1d, F3nceR, Xeon?, viX, Swoke, F@nteR, FlaT.

Recently taking 5th place at Quakecon 2020 and 3rd at Quakecon 2021 were also great results. Both final games for us were very intense and needed a decider.

To this day we still have no clue how Prowler manage to plant on Assault vs Underdogs

What do you feel is the most important skill in terms of contribution to winning games in RtCW?

I think it’s a combination between game knowledge, and fast decision making that is the key in winning rounds for your team.

Why do you play RtCW over other competitive FPS games?

For me RtCW gives the best multiplayer experience as a team.

I switched to ET in 2005/2006 and it lasted 2 years max, but it felt so different compared to RtCW.

I tried other games, Overwatch, Dirty Bomb f.e. but they feel so bland. Nothing comes close to RtCW in my opinion.

The team at LAN

What’s your confirmed lineup, and roles of the players?

Our line up is: Twister, Delgon, Neo, Dusty, Crabje and me. I will be panzer, and for the others nothing is confirmed yet. We will figure everything out in the upcoming pracs before LAN.

What’s your goal at LAN? Is there a finishing position you are targeting?

Our main goal is to have fun and enjoy our time during LAN.

Position-wise I would say we are battling with bZ and n9 for 2nd place.

What would you say was your best performance as a team to-date?

Taking 4th place in the league “Road to Ghent”.

Our LAN team is a combination between Hazy and EBD. We just lost our semi-final play-off match against them.

Who on your team is most likely to miss their flight and turn up late to LAN?

Only two of us go by plane to LAN, so chances of missing their flight are slim, but if there is anyone who’s going to turn up late that will be me… I am quite known to sleep through matches… You don’t want to know how many times Crabje called me 10 minutes before a game.

Predictions

Of the teams signed up so far, what’s your prediction for final rankings?

nP being the clear favorites to win. bZ, n9 and us will battle for 2nd place, AAA and Marauders will fight for fifth place.

Playing on LAN is different than from home I’d say so maybe we’ll see a surprise. Imagine Zed showing his perfect aim skills with 0 ping. He will destroy the whole enemy team.

Who are you most looking forward to meeting at LAN and why?

If I have to say one person it would be Crabje. We spent so much time together these past few years it’s crazy to think we needed this LAN to meet up.

Which player do you think is the most likely to drink so much they can’t play the following day?

I guess everybody is so eager to play the players won’t show up late, but I heard Graecos will be shout casting. Big chance he will miss the first match on Saturday morning.

Are there any particular match-ups you’re looking forward to?

I saw some interesting strategies used by Follow.rtcw on the last ET LAN. They will show it even better this time.

The Opposition

Out of the opposition players, who is the most difficult to play against, in your opinion?

Mata, he is just so smart in-game and almost always correct with his decision making. When you have him in the line-up he makes the whole team play better.

Which team do you think is most likely to pleasantly surprise people (dark horse pick)?

Follow.RTCW, they are going to challenge everybody on Friday with their drinking-games, they will benefit from it the next day.

Which opposition player do you feel is most underrated?

Definitely Eddo. He always stays calm and shows composure under pressure, no matter the situation.

He had some magical docruns for us with UumM in season 3.

Sorry to him, for all the shitty teamkills I did on him.

The Future

What does the future hold for you and the team following LAN?

We are going to continue playing this beautiful game, maybe a bit less, but we’ll keep on playing.

If you could make one change to the game, what would it be?

I would say mp_ice needs some changes to make it a more playable map. It’s too hard and takes too long for the attacking team to reach docs and get away.

Changing spawntimes to 25 seconds could be an improvement, but if possible I think the change should be map related. If we can make a change to the map so the docs are more accessible I think that’s the better solution.

Are there any maps outside of the 7 at LAN you’d like to see in future tournaments?

Maybe we can try to add te_ufo into the pool. With spawntimes 20/40 the map plays a lot better. Also Cipher has potential to be a good map, but it still needs work to make it a good playable map.
